The Timer Wash+Soap Dispenser provides an excellent visual to help young children and children with disabilities spend adequate time in self-care. As a teacher, I find that my students have developed improved independence using this specialty timer. The audible cue and visual for each portion of the sequence help students to know when the next step has begun. Good hygiene skills prompted by the device also help improve healthy outcomes for children.
One improvement would be to correlate the steps more closely with the Department of Health guides for washing hands. For instance, having cues for turning on the water, wetting hands, putting soap on hands, scrubbing hands/making bubbles, rinsing hands off, turning off the water, drying hands and throwing away a paper towel. The current prompts are for: putting soap on hands, scrubbing hands/making bubbles, and rinsing hands.
