Global Handwashing Day

October 15 has been established as Global Handwashing Day. The Global Handwashing Partnership developed Global Handwashing Day to be, “a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.”

The Global Handwashing Partnership is a partnership of international stakeholders who work to promote the importance of handwashing with soap. The partnership brings together organizations from all around the world in multiple different fields of business. Their vision is, “for handwashing with soap to be universally promoted and practiced at all critical times.”

COVID-19 has been a reminder to us how important handwashing is. Global Handwashing Day has been a day for years that encourages people around the world to wash their hands with soap. This year's Global Handwashing Day theme is “Hand Hygiene for All.” This is in line with the Global Handwashing Partnership’s goal of achieving universal hand hygiene.
